Launch of Marys Mount Pilot Project on 24th July a Success

Subject to confirmation from the strata-title committee, at the end of this month, phase  two of the Marys Mount project will kick-off at the old Monastery on the Hill.

There is significant opportunity for improvement in the apartments at  Monastery and further opportunity in the grounds.

The above is part of the much larger project across Marys Mount:-
  • Growing vegetables
  • Heat and flood mitigation
  • A climate awareness public health program, ex the National Health Service UK and tailored for the situation across Marys Mount

Next Briefing session covering the above is scheduled for the
27th August at the Soldiers Club,

  1. Keep an "ear-out" for news bulletins on all of the radio stations in Gouilburn Mulwaree about how the work of the community sustainability hub is already benefitting the community.
  2. Find out why the G-M CSH initiative has attracted 600+ followers on LinkedIn Sustainability Professionals

Testimonial From UK-based Leader in Sustainability:-

"This is a fantastic project and this is how all projects should be designed. The local community are the stewards of their land and have control over all aspects of the project development. Too often the local communities are an after-thought when they are the ones with the regions knowledge".

Rehydrating the Warragamba Dam Cathcment Area

The Goulburn Mulwaree LGA is a key part of the water catchment area for the Warragamba Dam
  • OSGM's program of work, in particular but not only at Marys Mount, will build on the tree planting to improve the soil that will hold more moisture  with clean water flowing into the local creek and from there into the Wollondilly river. The project will help in times of drought.
For More Information See Below
  • Cool the Country, see: https://www.coolthecountry.com, defines a strategy to cool Australia, starting with the Warragmaba Dam and its catchment area. This highly important treaty requires that nations collaborate to protect our oceans from overfishing and deep sea mining. Climate Council - Greg Mullins Warns Of Fire Risk
An important part  of OSGM's work is flood and fire mitigation and is part of what has already been started at Marys Mount with the tree planting and will extend into the suburb itself:- Flood and Fire Mitigation
Advice from the Climate Council - Invest heavily in disaster preparation and community resilience at all levels of government so we’re as prepared as possible for the worsening fire risks we already face. The report covers fire risk and not other climate mitigation such as urban and broad-acre landscape regeneration.  A such carbon reduction is covered but not sequestration.

Official Climate Outlook For Australia

  • If you blinked, you might have missed the recent and much delayed release of Australia's terrifying climate future. We can make a difference at the LGA level and by networking that action across SE NSW. This is what OSGM's work and that of the Community Sustainability Hub is all about. That work is supported by the use of the widely adopted One Planet Living Framework and app. We have five (5) years left to stop the temperature rising to 5 degrees above the benchmark

GMC Cycle Path Program

  • The Council's cycle path initative, the latest being around Victoria Park is most welcome and can only with eco-tourism. And linking that track up to the riverside walking/cycling track would be useful, in particular if  the available shade along that track can be increased, as is already happening over the creek from Warrigal, behind Green Valley Road. Such a program could complement the Rail Trail initiative, but more immediately.
