Community Sustainability Hub
Vision, Mission &  Values

Vision Mission, Values & Strategy

Vision Mission, Values & Strategy - Key Input from ZeroSE, One Planet Living (Bioregional UK) and the OnePlanet App

Vision
Community and regional collaboration to secure a sustainable future for Goulburn-Mulwaree (and across SE NSW) based on ecological, economic and social health and resilience.

Objectives: To achieve the following objectives through collaboration and inclusivity.
  • Partner with the community to create a network of Sustainability Hubs across Australia
  • Establish equitable communities – equitable distribution of resources and opportunities
  • Secure a sustainable future
  • Respect ecological integrity: Nature Positive
  • Recognise human systems as part of Nature
  • Provide leadership in responding to the challenges of the changing climate
  • Adopt Emission Reduction Targets As Per the Climate Council of Australia (75% reduction by 2030 on our 2005 levels, see:- Climate Council Target
  • Promote sustainable housing
  • Promote regenerative agriculture
  • Equity, inclusion, integrity and ethics

Principles:
The principles of the Community Sustainability Hub's Charter are:
  • Evidence based research
  • Community and Ecological integrity
  • Advocacy for social justice and climate policy and action
  • Comprehensive reporting
  • Sustainable Economy
Evidence based research
A foundation of the CSH's work comes directly from ZeroSE, in the form of their factsheets that provide baseline data to support policy making and action in local government areas across South East NSW. The factsheets provide a template for similar work across Australia.

Ecological Integrity
The CSH respects natural systems and applies landscape ecology to the environmental challenges of our time. Our policy recommendations apply to bioregions as defined by Bioregional Australia. Our actions recognise the interdependence of natural systems and are consistent with managing landscapes at scale. Ecological integrity requires a sustainable economy to minimise the consumption of natural resources, reduce costs and harm to the environment.

Community engagement
The CSH, through its partners, is a voice for bringing communities together, leading to effective and widespread action. Our affiliates are community groups that are dedicated to action on the ground. Its reach includes private citizens, schools, tertiary institutions, business and local government. There is a commitment from members of the CSH to work collaboratively.

Community and Local Council engagement should be informed through the One Planet Living's Sustainability Categories, It is intended that working to these categories can be measured to track and inform progress towards community sustainability :
  • Health & happiness
  • Equity & local economy
  • Culture & community
  • Land & Nature
  • Sustainable water
  • Local & sustainable food
  • Travel & transport
  • Materials & products
  • Zero waste
  • Zero carbon emissions

Advocacy for climate policy and action
The CSH through its affiliates, advocates for climate and environmental policy change and action and the establishment of a sustainable economy. While the action is focused in south-east NSW, the advocacy is also at state and national levels. Our advocacy highlights the links between healthy environments, employment opportunities, increased productivity, reduced financial risk and quality of life. At the same time the CSH will advocate and work to form a network of community sustainability hubs.

Comprehensive reporting
The CSH advocates for the consistent measurement, evaluation and reporting of implementation projects to generate quality data that informs learnings from the past and the aggregation of outcomes.

Sustainable  Economy
Protection and regeneration our environment and natural assets will create the largest part of a sustainable economy. The importance of this in was underlined at the 2025 UK Climate Emergency Summit.

We support the Bega valley circular economy project as an outstanding  lighthouse regional development project. BCV 2030 program isn’t simply about zero waste to landfill and optimising recycling. This comprehesive program is about linking regenerative economic and environmental development and social equity across the region, underpinned with efficient water and energy utilisation. The delivery will be driven by a community owned co-operative enterprise that will facilitate the delivery of circular projects, invest in critical infrastructure and community initiatives and become a global leader in a range of product areas.
