Objectives
- To protect residents of Marys Mount from the growing climate , in particular temperature extremes, drought and flooding.
- To reduce carbon emissions to an agreed level in the pilot and in general across Marys Mount
- Mitigate flooding by increasing the carbon in the soil through garden and urban planting
- More sustainable, affordable and low energy requirement housing that lower capital cost and running cost
- Housing development to take advantage of landscape resources to improve sustainability, eg bodies of water
- Encourages more social activity through neighbourhood projects
- Grow the size of our local economy that contributes to community sustainability by building the reputation of Goulburn-Mulwaree as a "Sustainable" Community locally, nationally and internationally
- Build on the good work of the Council in the provision of recreational areas and facilities across Marys Mount
- Set aside areas for the use of our First Nations People
- Reduce carbon emissions across the particpating pilot houses and across Marys Mount, using the very detailed emissions data
- Promote the project internationally including through LinkedIn and publically availability of progress against the plan
- Attract investment to Goulburn Mulwaree to build a Sustainable Economy
Associated Projects: -
- Tree planting on Council land across Riverside Park, including Quiberon Way, behind Warrigal Aged Care and over the creek and behind Green Valley Road. See latest information on this link.
- Establishment of mycorrizal planting patches across Marys Mount on private and public land, in particular at the start of Marys Mount Road where most of the work required to promote mycorrhizal fungi has already been undertaken. See this video.
Project Activites
Guided by the recently developed Marys Mount and LGA One Planet Living, using OnePlanet.com mindmaps and plans to:-
- further grow the sense of community
- cool around the houses and in the streets
- reduce the cost of building gardens by reducing the effort through templates and by working together
- build private and shared vegetable patches
- improve domestic water capture with larger water tanks
- extend the Marys Mount tree planting area to cool the vacant Council land in middle of the housing developments
- create shaded walking and cycling opportunities on the extensive pathways, starting at the weir by furthejr planting.
- The above to be part of the larger “masterplan” for Marys Mount to build to:-
- plant biodiversity and incoporate it to make ot a mandatory requirement for further MM developments
- join up the bodies of water to help cool down the environment,such as the one at Blakelys Run
- cool the houses and the streets
- group housing
