Major Sustainability Projects
- Build Food Sustainability Across Goulburn Mulwaree to mitigate the impact of anticipated food shortages - A draft mindmap and plan developed using OnePlanet.com has been created and are updated as plans are rolled-out and updated further.
- Marys Mount Phase 3 - Large-Scale Rehydration & Sustainable Housing - We have a mindmap and plans for that work that can be found on this page. A project commencement date is now close after a number of residents in a strata-title are expected to confirm their involvement.
- Increasing the size of house blocks to ensure that there is more land around the house will assist in moderating summer and winter temperatures, supported by planting more biodiversity around the houses. There are no plans yet created for this work and it will need extensive discussion with the housing devevlopers and the Goulburn Mulwaree Council
- Build group housing to support more residents at a lower cost per person. Aspirational
- Use established frameworks such as Permaculture, to reduce the carbon footprint of houses and to make the best use of the land. One of the partners for the Marys Mount project is a qualified Permaculturalist.
- It is planned to Moderate the temperature across Marys Mount by joining-up water bodies and by increasing the level of moisture in the ground through improving healthy soil. This awaits a budget but there are ongoing discussions with qualified and experienced practitioners.
- Run-O-Waters - Sustainable Gardens and Houses
- This is a whole of suburb project to take advantage of significant water resources to hydrate the soil so as to moderate temperatures across the area. The increased soil health amd moisture will support more extensive planting of native flora that will attract more fauna. This is scheduled to start with a pilot that awaits funding.
- A very successful example of one of such a project can be found at166 Ducks Lane, that was a very successful joint venture between the landowners and OSGM. See this page.
- It is proposed to put aside an area at Run-O-Waters for First Nations use as an important part of the next phase. which is to rehydrate and regenerate the whole suburb. This planned and awaits the also planned whole of suburb project requires more detailed planning.
